Melissa Swanson-Musil

Melissa Swanson grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she began competitive swimming at the age of four. Her deep connection to the water carried her through collegiate swimming while earning a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Florida Atlantic University.

 

Since 2001, Melissa has taught swimmers of all ages and abilities as a certified Water Safety Instructor (WSI) and USA Swim Coach. She also spent years working as an Ocean Rescue Lifeguard for the City of Boca Raton, gaining critical experience in emergency response and public safety.

 

Melissa holds certifications as an Aquatic Professional (AqP), Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO), and Lifeguard Instructor (LGI). A defining moment in her career occurred during a near-drowning incident, where her quick response helped save a young child’s life. That experience further ignited her passion for advancing water safety initiatives and drowning prevention.

 

In 2014, Melissa founded The Swimming Swan, a full-service aquatics management company committed to elevating safety standards, expanding access to quality swim instruction, and supporting public and private aquatic facilities across the country. Through her leadership, Melissa continues to drive innovation in aquatic education, lifeguard staffing, and facility operations—empowering communities with safer, stronger aquatic programs.
